Welcome to the Berkshire Weekend Walkers

The Ramblers Association

The Berkshire Weekend Walkers is part of the Ramblers (UK hiking association) and we provide walks and social events in and around the English county of Berkshire. Our walking group is primarily for people of working age who can find time to get out for a walk at the weekend.

As there is already a group for people in their 20s and 30s in Berkshire, our membership is mainly made up of people in their 40s and older but we welcome people of any age. See our FAQs page to find out more about the other walking groups in Berkshire and how we fit in.

Our Walks

We generally have a walk every weekend, all year round, on either a Saturday or Sunday. Some of these walks are organised jointly with other Ramblers groups in the area.

Our walks generally range in length from five to fifteen miles, and each walk is graded in difficulty based on terrain and pace. Each leader brings their own style to their walks, giving variety to the programme.

Walks normally include a picnic lunch stop (bring your own packed lunch) and often also include a stop at a country pub along the way, providing refreshment and an opportunity to socialise more with your fellow walkers.

Social Events and Holidays

Before the pandemic, we would normally have several social events and a few walking holidays each year. We're gradually getting back to normal.

Our social events have included such things as meals out, cinema trips, ten pin bowling, museum trips and just going to the pub for a drink. Although these are not exactly walking related, they are a good way of getting to know the other members of the group and they add another dimension to the Berkshire Weekend Walkers.

Our walking holidays have so far included long weekends in the Peak District, the South Downs, the Cotswolds, Shropshire and Bath, plus whole weeks in Cornwall, Yorkshire and the Lake District.
